Networked Politics ? Blog Archive ? What exactly is Dedication in ...

The query of whenever a romantic relationship is committed is often a source of significantly confusion and debate. We reside inside a time once the marriage rate is heading down, the co-habitation rate is likely up, as well as the majority of first-born kids at the moment are born to unmarried parents.

Within this post I hope to shed some light on this query to facilitate your work with couples and men and women challenged by different perceptions with the standing of their associations.

Commitment VS. Guarantee

I lately had a discussion with a woman who informed me she had just broken off a ?committed? partnership. A number of questions later on I realized that she had been dating this individual for any year, they were not residing together, plus the purpose she broke it off is that he ?cheated.?

We discussed pre-committed vs. dedicated relationships, and she agreed that it had been a pre-committed relationship, but insisted they had created a ?commitment? to each other.

Okay, things are receiving clearer. Around the one hand could be the status in the relationship- pre-committed vs. committed, and on the other hand are commitments produced inside the relationship. Macro vs. micro. Two diverse issues, appropriate?

Inside our discussion, it occurred to me to create a distinction in between a ?Commitment? vs. a ?Promise.? They made a promise to one another inside the context of the relationship that was not committed. That distinction seemed to help her make extra sensation of things.

When I asked the RCI coaches for comments over the ?commitment vs. promise? distinction, most felt that it had been just semantics and there is not significantly of a difference. The common consensus was that after you produce a guarantee youre making a dedication.

Well, I agree that it truly is a question of semantics, and here is my definition of conditions:

Guarantee: Verbally mentioned future intention to carry out a distinct act.

- I promise to choose up your dry cleaning rather than forget this time - I guarantee to be exclusive in our partnership

Commitment: Each a Reality shown by habits, and an Mindset consisting of feelings and beliefs.

- I am committed to trying to keep my guarantees - Im committed to our relationship

In brief, a guarantee is some thing you say, as well as a dedication is something you do. A guarantee is situation-specific. A commitment is contextual.

A promise can be a tiny commitment. If a potential partner doesnt preserve promises, I would query their capability to keep commitments, as they are surely related.

CONFUSION ABOUT Dedication

Irrespective of whether or not you concur with my semantics, the distinction I made among a commitment along with a guarantee was valuable for that above conversation.

The larger image even though, is that I see loads of confusion about the standing of todays relationships. Some many years in the past when I coined the phrase ?pre-commitment? to describe partners that had been exclusive although not however committed, it had been a helpful distinction, however the query remains- ?What is dedication??

After you are married, it is distinct youre inside a committed partnership. Your dedication is really an authorized contract plus a publicly witnessed Truth. On the other hand, it can be widespread for couples in trouble for 1 or both partners to possess an uncommitted Attitude.

Ive talked with quite a few unmarried people today, because the woman over, who have explained by themselves in ?committed associations.? They clearly possess the mindset, but normally have nothing but verbal guarantees (and from time to time not even that!) to exhibit that the romantic relationship is committed.

IN MY Opinion, That you are -NOT- In a Dedicated Connection IF:

1. Your companion is not conscious your partnership is dedicated

2. You happen to be asking yourself if this connection is dedicated

3. You and your partner have differences of viewpoint about the standing of the connection

4. Your loved ones and pals have diverse perceptions about the standing of your connection

5. You as well as your partner havent acted to explicitly formalize your commitment in some way

6. You happen to be relying on verbal promises devoid of a significant monitor document of them getting stored

A dedication is explicit and unambiguous. A dedication is usually a formal event of some kind amongst two folks. A dedication is one thing you DO over time. A true dedication is generally officially enforceable and there are actually implications for breaking it.

And, to get a romantic relationship to be absolutely dedicated, there are no exits- mentally, emotionally, or bodily. Once the going will get rough, you help it become operate.

CONTINUUM OF Commitment

Dedication is not a mild switch that goes from ?off? to ?on.? When building a partnership with someone, the degree of commitment gradually boosts.

Then you may have all the shades of grey. living collectively, dating solely for extra than a yr, even engaged to be married, that might look and really feel like dedication, but could it be really?

Reality VS. Mindset

Commitment in a romantic relationship is difficult in that it takes two people today, and it calls for an alignment of Truth (events, actions) and Mindset (thoughts, beliefs) for each of them.

It is actually popular to become committed actually (e.g. ?married?) although not in attitude (e.g. ?Im not certain this really is the correct relationship for me?).

It really is also popular to become pre-committed in reality (e.g. dating solely) and dedicated in mindset (e.g. ?This is The One particular! ?).

In my function with partners I have located that the most crucial variable determining their long term achievement is their amount of commitment towards the partnership.

In my encounter, when partners are committed in reality, although not in mindset, their prognosis is weak.

Then, you will find the pre-committed couples that commonly drop into two categories-

UNCONSCIOUS- normally subsequent the ?mini-marriage? design of trying the romantic relationship out, acting committed with out truly creating the commitment. A disconnect of fact and attitude.

CONSCIOUS- aware that they may be not yet committed, normally have commitment like a goal, inquiring on their own ?Is this the appropriate romantic relationship for me? Must I make a dedication?? An alignment of reality and attitude.

Summary

So, when is often a connection committed?

? When there is an alignment of fact and frame of mind.

What generates the ?fact? of commitment?

I suggest these three criterion:

Requirements #1: Promises produced to one another concerning the permanent nature in the partnership that are held

Standards #2: Explicit, formal, public declaration

Standards #3: Unambiguous to partners and others

In present-day globe, if all 3 with the above are satisfied, I would say it can be a committed partnership, irrespective of whether legally married or not.

I sincerely hope this post helps tackle the popular concerns about dedication that arise in partnership coaching. Youll find no pat solutions or prescriptions, but it is my hope that these tips and ideas will allow you to have successful discussions along with your clients which might be caught within the gray areas to help them to make effective romantic relationship choices.

Violence flares as Syria regime fails to pull out troops

THE Syrian government will not pull troops from cities and towns engulfed by the country's unrest before life returns to normal in these areas, a high-ranking official has said, as activists reported violent outbreaks that claimed the lives of at least two dozen people across the nation yesterday.

The statement by foreign ministry spokesman Jihad Makdessi was the first response to an appeal made by UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan to Syrian authorities that they stop military activities as "the stronger party" in a "gesture of good faith" to the lightly-armed opposition.

The reply suggests that any implementation of Mr Annan's plan to end the conflict -- which Syrian President Bashar Assad has accepted -- will be a long and complicated process.

Damascus appears to be playing for time by indicating broad agreement with the plan but then quibbling over or ignoring the details.

One of the centrepieces of the plan is the withdrawal of Syrian troops from cities, but Mr Makdessi told state TV late last Friday that the military is only in populated areas "in a state of self defence and protecting civilians".

"The Syrian army is not happy to be present in residential areas," Mr Makdessi said. "Once peace and security prevail in these areas, the army will not stay nor wait for Kofi Annan to leave. This is a Syrian matter."

Syria's uprising began a year ago with peaceful protests against Mr Assad's regime. In the face of a fierce crackdown, the uprising has become increasingly militarised and opposition groups now say their only hope is to drive out Mr Assad.

The UN estimates more than 9,000 people have been killed so far in the fighting.

International opponents of Mr Assad are struggling to pin down a strategy on Syria, as Mr Annan's peace plan is failing to get off the ground.

The six-point proposal to end the violence, accepted by Mr Assad, requires the government to immediately pull troops and heavy weapons out of cities and towns, and abide by a two-hour halt in fighting every day to allow humanitarian access and medical evacuations.

"The government must stop first and then discuss a cessation of hostilities with the other side," Mr Annan spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said last Friday. "We are appealing to the stronger party to make a gesture of good faith. The deadline is now."

Mr Assad promised last Thursday to "spare no effort" to make sure Mr Annan's plan succeeds. But he demanded that armed forces battling his regime commit to halting violence as well.

Many Syrians are frustrated at the lack of will for a foreign military intervention and are deeply sceptical President Assad will carry out Mr Annan's peace plan.

Syria's state-run news agency SANA said Syrian troops foiled an infiltration attempt by gunmen from Lebanon into a village near the western town of Talkalakh.

SANA said troops confiscated weapons and killed and wounded some of the men while others fled back into Lebanon.

In other violence, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said government troops killed at least 25 people yesterday, mostly in the southern province of Daraa, the northwestern province of Idlib and the central region of Homs.

The Local Co-ordination Committees, another activist group, said security forces killed 24 people yesterday -- nine of them in Idlib and eight in Homs.

For the international community, Syria is proving a murky conflict with no easy solutions. Mr Assad's regime is one of Washington's clearest foes, a government that has long been closely allied with Iran and anti-Israel groups Hamas and Hezbollah, which the US considers terrorist.

Saudi Arabia and other Sunni-led Gulf countries are eager to see Mr Assad fall in hopes of breaking Syria out of its alliance with their regional rival, Shiite-majority Iran.

US secretary of state Hillary Clinton was flying yesterday from Saudi Arabia, where she held talks with Saudi King Abdullah and others on ways to resolve the Syrian crisis and other regional strategies, to Turkey, ahead of today's 60-nation gathering of the 'Friends of the Syrian People' in Istanbul.

The US remains opposed to arming Syria's rebels, which some Gulf states have proposed, even as continued violence is stymying UN efforts to persuade Damascus to make good on a ceasefire plan it has accepted.

slideshow Plans for the 2012 edition of the Clocktower Classic Handcycling event were laid out for downtown Rome merchants Friday during the monthly Downtown Coffee Break, conducted at La Marie?s, 201 Broad St.

Ann Hortman of the Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau said the seventh annual Clocktower Classic is planned for April 26-29 and will feature five different races during the four-day period, including one in Polk County and four in Floyd County. The feature event is the Downtown Criterium race, scheduled for Saturday, April 28, at 6 p.m.

Hortman also explained that day will feature Rome?s second Streets Alive event where the 200 block of Broad Street on the Clock Tower side will be shut down for a street festival featuring Zumba, fencing demonstrations, martial arts, ballet, skateboarding and other activities beginning at 2 p.m.

The annual Playtona 500, a benefit trike ride for Cancer Navigators, will take place at 5 p.m. that day, followed by a youth handcycling event at 5:30 p.m.

?Since this is a paralympic year, we expect a lot of handcyclists here gearing up for the games,? Hortman said. ?Registration just opened and about 80 percent of those who have signed up already haven?t been here before.?

She said one of those who has pre-registered is a former California Highway Patrol officer who was injured in the line of duty. Members of the Paralyzed Veterans team are also expected to bring back a large team again this year.

Loma Linda University in California will also have members of their rehab teams participating in the Clocktower Classic.

Members of the downtown merchants group were also reminded that the International Festival is planned for today from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Bridgepoint Plaza. A variety of international foods, arts and crafts will all be on display to help promote the multi-cultural community that Rome has become. Members of a delegation from Ueki, Kumamoto, Rome?s sister city in Japan, are also slated to participate in the festival.

Ryan Leaf, Former NFL Bust, Arrested for Felony Drug Possession

Ryan Leaf - the number-two pick in the 1998 NFL draft and arguably the biggest bust in league history - was arrested in Montana yesterday.

Details are unclear, but authorities in Great Falls says the former Washington State standout was booked on charges of burglary of a residence, theft and felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs. He was released on $76,000 bond and is due in court on Monday.

Ryan Leaf Mug Shot

Last year, Leaf had a benign brain tumor removed, and in 2010 he was placed on probation after pleaded guilty in Amarillo, Texas to various drug charges.

He released the following statement soon after this arrest:

“I’ve made some mistakes, and have no excuses. I am using the tools I’ve learned to move forward rather than backwards, and will be open to talking about the details in the days to come. I am confident that there will be further understanding when the facts are revealed, and feel very blessed for all of the support, especially from my friends and family.”

At the 25th annual Kids' Choice Awards, the slime runneth over.

Host Will Smith opened the 25th annual Kids' Choice Awards promising a record amount of the show's trademark green gunk. Though some 20 awards are presented at the KCAs, the real suspense isn't who will take home a "Blimp" (the show's Oscar), it's when and on whom the slime will spill.

It's like a baptism into kid-dome that can come at any moment: from a hidden bucket, dumped from the rafters or exploded from little orange blimps.

"No one is safe from the slime!" screamed Smith. "You have to earn the slime! It's an honor."

Halle Berry was the first to be covered, but she was far from alone. She was joined by "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner (who won favorite "buttkicker"), "Glee" star Chris Colfer and male singer winner Justin Bieber, who was utterly drenched along with Smith at the end of the show.

The KCAs are Nickelodeon's annual celebration for kids, and it's often the most-watched children's program of the year. They draw a considerable roster of stars looking to thank their smallest fans and cater to their youngest demographics.

"This is, like, the coolest award show ever," said "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart, accepting the award for favorite movie actress.

Smith, himself a 10-time Blimp winner, started the show with an elaborate, digitally-animated skydive from Nickelodeon's trademark blimp. Smith was then hoisted from the rafters to the stage of the Galen Center at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where thousands of glow-stick waving fans cheered him ? including first lady Michelle Obama.

Obama later presented "the big help" award for charity work to Taylor Swift. Upon receiving the award, the pop star said, "I am freaking out."

Nickelodeon introduces many kid-friendly quirks to the usual award show festivities. It rolls out an orange carpet, rather than a red one, and envelopes are the last way winners are announced. Saturday night's choices came by way of a sword eater, a statue impersonator and giant heads held aloft from the crowd.

Winners are chosen from voting online. Selena Gomez won for both favorite TV actress and female singer. Adam Sandler took home the award for favorite movie actor. And Katy Perry, shortly after performing, was given the award for favorite voice in an animated movie for "Smurfs."

"The only reason why I'm still here today ? and remember this ? is because I've never grown up!" Perry told the young audience.

More than 7.3 million watched last year's awards. This year, Nickelodeon badly needs the KCAs to continue such a success. In March, for the first time, the Disney Channel beat out Nickelodeon in average total daily viewers ? a title Nickelodeon had held every month since 1995.

Nickelodeon's own series "Victorious" won best TV show. Jake Short, star of the Disney Channel's "A.N.T. Farm," won best TV actor.

But the most ceremonious moment of the KCAs is the slimey finale. The honor ? which Smith said had been chosen by online votes ? went to Bieber, who made a surprise appearance late in the show. Smith clutched Bieber as fountains of slime poured out across the stage, while Obama ? splattered by a few drops ? danced in the seats.

Indian Defence Ministry Bans Israeli Military Industries (Uzi Manufacturer) For 10 Years For Corruption

2 04 2012

[SEE:? Indian Defence Ministry Bans Israeli Military Industries For 10 Years For Corruption ]

NEW DELHI, March 6 (UPI) ? The Indian Defense Ministry has blacklisted six armaments companies following allegations of corruption among its major armaments suppliers.

The ban, which will list a decade, includes Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd., Israeli Military Industry and Germany?s Rheinmetall Air Defense. Two Indian and one Russian defense contractors are also included.

The unprecedented action resulted from a corruption investigation conducted by the Criminal Bureau of Investigation of the former Director General of Ordnance Factories Sudipta Ghosh, a statement from the ministry said Tuesday.

?Consequent to the filing of the charge sheet in the case related to illegal gratification against Sudipta Ghosh, former DGOF, the firms were recommended for blacklisting by CBI on basis of evidence collected against them,? Defense Ministry officials said.

The Indian firms named in the scandal are New Delhi?s T.S. Kisan and Co. and Ludhiana?s R.K. Machine Tool, while Russian firm Corporation Defense has also been targeted.

The companies have been banned from further business contracts with India?s Department of Defense Production Ordnance Factory Board for the next 10 years.
