The 2000s saw the demise of Sega in the game console industry, and then the rise of another perhaps more potent player. In their place, Microsoft emerged with new and exciting game consoles. Overall, the best game consoles of this decade brought new realistic graphics and innovation that saw new game console?features emerge. So, here are a few of the best game consoles of the 2000s.
Playstation 2:
The Playstation was a big hit, so with that its sequel always had good support. In addition to this, the Playstation 2 also had backward compatibility with Playstation games, which gave some continuity with the?previous game console. With the most realistic games and graphics of the time,?the Playstation 2?soon established itself as the console of choice with games such as Gran Turismo and Metal Gear Solid emerging as block bluster game titles. Overall, it set records as the best selling game console to date.
Xbox:
The Xbox was Microsoft?s first game console. Overall, the console introduced on-line multi-player gaming for the first time with Xbox live. The console could also play music as well as games. With Halo as its launch title it had a strong game title, and soon established itself as a rival to the Playstation 2.
Nintendo DS:
When it comes to hand-held game consoles Nintendo are hard to beat. As such, they continued their fine tradition of hand-held consoles with the Nintendo DS which many consider?to be the best hand-held game console. The Nintendo DS included a touch screen, compatibility with Game Boy Advance titles, and also on-line gaming. In addition to this, the console has had many great and original game titles such as Nintendogs and New Super Mario Bros. Further to this, the Nintendo DS has had some enhancements, such as the Nintendo DS Lite, which is a lighter redesign of the original DS.
The Wii:
Perhaps Nintendo?s best console of the decade is that of the current Nintendo Wii. The console included a wireless controller called the Wii remote. In addition to this the console has backward compatibility with GameCube software, and a Wii menu which includes channels such as the Disc and Mii channel. Overall, the Wii has had some notable software titles such as Wii sports, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart?Wii, and New Super Mario Bros.
Xbox 360:
The successor to the Xbox, the Xbox 360, is a console with a variety of features and accessories with numerous control pads and peripherals. In many respects, it is the best multimedia game console. In addition with this, the console has a strong line-up of supporting games such as Call of Duty 2, Halo 3, and Splinter Cell Conviction.
So overall, these were some of the best game consoles of the 2000s. Game consoles such as the Playstation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS have been great original game consoles with some of the best game titles of the decade such as Halo, Mario Galaxy, and Nintendogs.
