Nancy Pelosi Is Not Heading Back to the Speaker's Chair (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told Associated Press on Thursday that Democrats can win back the House majority next year because Republicans under House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, have failed to create jobs.

Seriously?

There is no end to the rhetoric that Pelosi spews for political convenience only. The Bureau of Labor Statistics clearly shows an improvement - albeit slight - since she lost the speaker's chair, but none of that is relevant. The House does not create jobs by itself. It is merely one chamber of one branch of government. She knows that.

The unemployment problem began long before the last election that snatched the gavel from her hands and handed it to Republicans. In fact, Pelosi has offered little more than criticism throughout the entire year giving, at best, lukewarm support to proposals offered by a president from her own party.

I'm not a Pelosi fan. I have a problem with politicians who cannot separate themselves from the endless campaign cycle. She has never stopped trying to regain the speaker's chair since she was forced to hand it to her chief nemesis in January. Legislators like her forget that they have a role to play in running the government and, at times, they have to stop campaigning and do something.

She's not the only offender in Congress.

This is one of the reasons an Americans have such low regard for Congress. When did that happen? These are supposed to be the people's representatives, but we encourage this abhorrent behavior by re-elected returning them to office for decades at a time.

Boehner isn't much better. What Congress needs is a whole new batch of leaders of both parties in both chambers. These leaders say their experience helps guide the country - clearly that's not working out so well.

Pelosi can dream all she wants, but voters are not going to hand the House back to Democrats in 2012. In fact, they are likely to swipe the Senate from Democrats and hand it over to Republicans as well. Since 2012 is unlikely to have a swift economic turnaround for the nation and since the economy is unlikely to add 4 million new jobs next year, Nov. 6, 2012 is going to be a very bad day for Democrats. Unfortunately, Pelosi will keep her safe liberal seat, but she will have a lot fewer people sitting behind her.

No Nancy, you're not going to be speaker again next year.
